Unfortunately, Kyoko doesn't know the first thing about acting and bumbles her way through by sheer luck. The chemistry and romance builds with each new volume. The illustrations are great and tell the story as well as the words. This is a very light, easy read sure to please many.

The Glass Cafe by Gary Paulsen

The Glass Cafe: Or the Stripper and the State; How My Mother Started a War with the System That Made Us Kind of Rich and a Little Bit Famous-  by Gary Paulsen, 115 pages

Told in first person, this quick read was a bit odd (as it's told from Paulsen's past), but somewhat enjoyable nonetheless. Twelve year old Tony lives with his mom, Al (short for Alice), who is a stripper at the Kitty-Cat Club. He and his mom enjoy reading books and having discussions about them (his mom has a Masters in English) instead of watching television. As Tony describes his apartment complex, neighborhood and school, you come to the understanding that he is well loved by those around him (including dogs), and is an all around good kid.  When Tony's art teacher describes the human body as the best art study, Tony heads to his mom's work to study and sketch her coworkers (with mom's permission, of course). The women are in various state of undress/dress and Tony sketches the most artistically intriguing. Impressed with his work, his teacher requests permission from Al to display the drawings at an art gallery as part of a competition. There a concerned citizen requests an investigation of Al thinking Tony is being subjected to abuse. Chaos quickly ensues complete with courtroom drama, romance and all-out silliness.

Twinmakers by Sean Williams

Twinmakers by Sean Williams, 490

Creatively written teen sci-fi novel laced in dystopia. People are dying/disappearing when they try to improve their looks. Weird transports that smack of Star Trek whisk people from place to place. Then they change and are no more than a shadow of their former self. With AIs ruling the world, so much can happen. An excellent read, unfortunately no pictures would paste into the blog so you'll just have to search the shelves for a copy.

The Glass Casket by McCormick Templeman

The Glass Casket by McCormick Templeman, 352 pages

If you love dark fairy-tales, and folklore, you will love this book. It is well-written with twists and turns that will keep your head spinning. The book is very fast paced - much like Red Riding Hood - and almost as dark. It does contain some content that might not be suitable for younger readers. The publisher recommends grades 8 and up.

The Litigators by John Grisham

The Litigators by John Grisham, 401 pages

After enjoying another book by John Grisham (The Broker), I thought I would try this one next. It is a very long, very boring, very slow story about two very ridiculous, small time, sleazy lawyers - Finley & Figg who go against a very large drug company in a class action lawsuit. Another lawyer from a major law firm goes nuts one day and shows up on the door step of Finley & Figg (after a drinking spree in which he notices their sign on a bu)s. He is immediately employed leaving a $300,000 a year job for a measly stipend of $1,000 a month. With the class action lawsuit he is promised big money. Other than driving around town trying to find victims of the Krayoxx drug, nothing much happens to catch the readers interest. I'm really very shocked it received rave reviews.

A Clockwork Heart by Liesel Schwarz

A Clockwork Heart by Liesel Schwarz, 283 pages
Book 2 of "The Chronicles of Light and Shadow"

Steampunk at its finest ... with a very sad, dark, magic, mystery, fantasy, suspenseful storyline. A must read. Just break out the tissues before you get to the end.

Rat Runners by Oisín McGann

Rat Runners by Oisín McGann - 326 pages

"Four young thieves, one simple mission: Steal a black-leather box from the daughter of a murdered scientist without anyone noticing. But WatchWorld controls London now, and the organization knows everything."  - Amazon
Awesome story! Release date is January 13th, 2015.

Autumn Falls by Bella Thorne

Autumn Falls by Bella Thorne, 224 pages
Three things I loved most about this book:
1. The realness of the main character
2. The magic wasn't over board.
3. Family. Family is usually tossed to the wayside in most books ... but in Autumn Falls it's what makes the book so amazing.

TombQuest Book 1: Book of the Dead by Michael Northrop

TombQuest Book 1: Book of the Dead  by Michael Northrop, 208 pages

Awesome starter for a new series by scholastic. Publish date is currently January 27th, 2015. Perfect for fans of 39 Clues, Spirit Animals, Five Kingdoms, Etc. Very well written with lots of humor, suspense, mystery and a cliff-hanger ending.

The Broker by John Grisham

The Broker, by John Grisham 432 pages
"In his final hours in office, the outgoing President grants a controversial last-minute pardon to Joel Backman, a notorious Washington power broker who has spent the last six years hidden away in a federal prison. What no one knows is that the President issues the pardon only after receiving enormous pressure from the CIA. It seems that Backman, in his heyday, may have obtained secrets that compromise the world’s most sophisticated satellite surveillance system.

Backman is quietly smuggled out of the country in a military cargo plane, given a new name, a new identity, and a new home in Italy. Eventually, after he has settled into his new life, the CIA will leak his whereabouts to the Israelis, the Russians, the Chinese, and the Saudis. Then the CIA will do what it does best: sit back and watch. The question is not whether Backman will survive—there is no chance of that. The question the CIA needs answered is, Who will kill him?"
Oh my goodness. This was my first Grisham novel (that I can recall) and I couldn't wait to get to the end. Absolutely loved it.

Black Butler by Yana Toboso

Black Butler by Yana Toboso, 176 pages

Most definitely worth the wait. Ceil and Sebastian finally get to the bottom of the mystery surrounding the disappearance of several students and who the headmaster is. The only disappointment is the cliff hanger ending and long wait before the next volume is out.

Pandora Hearts by Jun Mochizuki

Pandora Hearts by Jun Mochizuki
v. 4 - 192 pages
v. 5 - 192 pages

Oz is still trying to trace Alice's memories and help her discover what she lost. The Cheshire Cat comes onto the scene, but his purpose is mixed. We also meet the Mad Hatter. I still don't quite know what exactly is going on, but little by little it's making sense. Hoping the next volumes will shed some light on a few questions I have about Oz, Alice, Break, Gil and others.

Pandora Hearts, by Jun Mochizuki

Pandora Hearts, by Jun Mochizuki, 576 pages
v.1 -192 pages
v.2 - 192 pages
v3. - 192 pages

I'm a little lost having read only the first three mangas of this series. Oz Vessalius is somehow transported to the abyss by a secret organization for the sin of being born. Oz's mother was murdered and his father wants nothing to do with his son even going so far as to say he wished his son was never born. Oz's servant, Gil is loyal to his master to a fault. When Oz is banished to the abyss, he returns 10 years later to find much has changed. With him is Alice, a chain that he has contracted with in order to exact revenge on those who hurt him, discover what his sin was and also find all of Alice's lost memories. With so much going on, it's hard to keep everything straight, but it appears that the mangas are all Oz's memories of what has already happened ... and he's just reminiscing.
