Bride by Ali Hazelwood

Bride by Ali Hazelwood -- 403 pages

Misery Lark, the only daughter of the most powerful Vampyre councilman of the Southwest, is an outcast-again. Her days of living in anonymity among the Humans are she has been called upon to uphold an historic peacekeeping alliance between the Vampyres and their mortal enemies, the Weres, and sees little choice but to surrender herself in the exchange. Again . . .

Weres are ruthless and unpredictable, and their Alpha, Lowe Moreland, is no exception. He rules his pack with absolute authority, but not without justice. And, unlike the Vampyre Council, not without feeling. It's clear from the way he tracks Misery's every movement that he doesn't trust her. If only he knew how right he was . . .

Because Misery has her own reasons to agree to this marriage of convenience, reasons that have nothing to do with politics or alliances, and everything to do with the only thing she's ever cared about. And she is willing to do whatever it takes to get back what's hers, even if it means a life alone in Were territory . . . alone with the wolf.

Squad by Maggie Tokuda-Hall and Lisa Steele

Squad by Maggie Tokuda-Hall and Lisa Sterle-213 pages

Becca moves from LA to Piedmont and starts at a posh new high school. She really wants to be normal and have normal friends. One day a simple act of kindness gets her in with the popular girls known as the Squad (Marley, Arianna, and Amanda). She starts going to parties with them and becomes friends with them. One night at a party, the Squad reveals that they're werewolves and eat "the worst guys" to satiate their hunger and replenish their energy. However, things start to go wrong after a while and the FBI is on the case when a local "worst guy" named Thatcher goes missing (Becca killed him in self-defense). Becca and Marley end up falling in love with each other and end up going to prom together. What happens to the Squad and their alpha, Arianna, in particular? I enjoyed reading this graphic novel and would give it 4 starts.

Cazadora by Romina Garber

Cazadora (Wolves of No World #2) by Romina Garber, 400 p.

"In Cazadora, Romina Garber weaves together Argentine folklore and what it means to be illegal in a timely, intimate, and emotionally powerful narrative. Werewolves. Witches. Romance. Resistance. Enter a world straight out of Argentine folklore...

Following the events of Lobizona, Manu and her friends cross the mystical border into Kerana--a cursed realm in Argentina--searching for allies and a hiding place. As they chase down leads about the Coven--a mythical resistance manada that might not even exist--the Cazadores chase down leads about Manu, setting up traps to capture and arrest her.

Just as it seems the Cazadores have Manu and her friends cornered, the Coven answers their call for help. As Manu catches her breath among these non-conforming Septimus, she discovers they need a revolution as much as she does. But is she the right one to lead them? After all, hybrids aren't just outlawed. They're feared and reviled. What happens when the Coven learns of Manu's dual heritage? Will they still protect her? Or will they betray her? And after running this far, for this long--how much farther can Manu go before her feet get tired, and she stops to take a stand?"-- Goodreads blurb

The second book in this series was more of the same of the first, which isn't a bad thing. The Argentinian folklore and mythology, along with the character development and the relationship building of the characters made this a great read. It moved very fast and was over before I knew it. A lot of readers were angry because this was touted as being a duology, but it was very apparent when this ended that another book is anticipated. I personally was glad to hear it and will be reading it when released!

Lobizona by Romina Garber

Lobizona (Wolves of No World #1) by Romina Garber, 400 p.

"Manuela Azul has been crammed into an existence that feels too small for her. As an undocumented immigrant who's on the run from her father's Argentine crime-family, Manu is confined to a small apartment and a small life in Miami, Florida. Until Manu's protective bubble is shattered.

Her surrogate grandmother is attacked, lifelong lies are exposed, and her mother is arrested by ICE. Without a home, without answers, and finally without shackles, Manu investigates the only clue she has about her past--a mysterious "Z" emblem—which leads her to a secret world buried within our own. A world connected to her dead father and his criminal past. A world straight out of Argentine folklore, where the seventh consecutive daughter is born a bruja and the seventh consecutive son is a lobizón, a werewolf. A world where her unusual eyes allow her to belong.

As Manu uncovers her own story and traces her real heritage all the way back to a cursed city in Argentina, she learns it's not just her U.S. residency that's illegal. . . .it's her entire existence."--Goodreads blurb

This was a really unique story and world. It has such a great paranormal vibe and the world-building was pretty original. While it had a very Harry Potter feel to it, it actually talked about the parallels of HP to the main character's life. It went a little far for me (as far as following the HP storyline), when there was even a made-up sport. The characters, world-building and story were interesting enough for me to jump right in to the second book in this series!

Wolf Queen by Linsey Hall

Wolf Queen by Linsey Hall - 254 pages

Shadow Guild: Wolf Queen #5

I'm a hero. And I'm locked in a cell. Fantastic.

A week ago, it took everything I had to save the werewolves from the Dark Moon curse, but I did it. Unfotunately, it left me with a nasty case of the curse myself. To make matters worse, I'm the most powerful werewolf who ever lived. And I'm apparently a goddess. Combine that with the fact that I'm also cursed to madness and a loss of my shifter loyalty, and you've got a recipe for disaster.

Even though I don't want to be locked up, I know its the best thing for everyone. If I were to get out and succumb to the curse, I could destroy us all. The only way to save myself is to find a cure for the curse, something that I still haven't managed to figure out. My fated mate Lachlan is determined to help me, but we we're still haunted by our own curse. If I fall for him, I'm dead. According to our most powerful seer, at least.

So yeah, let's just say things are complicated.

Rising Moon by Linsey Hall

Rising Moon by Linsey Hall - 205 pages

Shadow Guild: Wolf Queen #4

The Dark Moon curse has struck

For centuries, my kind was thought to be extinct. It turns out that we aren’t, but I'm the only one left. I was chosen for reasons that I don't understand, and it’s up to me to save the werewolves when the Dark Moon curse strikes.

To make matters worse—or maybe better—my fated mate Lachlan has been hexed to forget me. Suddenly, I’m a stranger to him, but it could be a gift, because as soon as we fall for each other, I’m fated to die.

In order to save the packs, I’m going to need Lachlan's help. We should be resisting each other—and it should be easier because he has no memory of me—but the attraction between us is irresistible. But no matter what, I can't allow myself to fall for the alpha werewolf who is my mate.

Pack of Lies by Linsey Hall

Shadow Guild: Wolf Queen #2

My Alpha mate and I are running out of time

In a world where magic is power, I should consider myself blessed. I'm loaded with the stuff. Except I have no control over my new magic, and no idea what I really am. All I know is that I’m running out of time before my magic tears me apart.

When a series of thefts reveals clues about my past, I must follow them. Unfortunately, the only way to save myself is to work side by side with Lachlan, the Alpha werewolf who is also my mate.

The chemistry between us is insane, but if we fall for each other, the Dark Moon curse will steal his sanity. The only problem is—we can’t seem to resist each other. It seems we're damned if we do and damned if we don't.

Wild Hunt by Linsey Hall

Wild Hunt by Linsey Hall - 276 pages

Shadow Guild: Wolf Queen #2

My secret is out

Despite ten years of secrecy, Lachlan has figured out that I’m his mate. And he’s not pleased that I’ve been hiding from him. It’s hardly my worst problem, though.

There’s a killer after me. Multiple killers, if our source is to be believed. And they’re determined to find me. As much as I want to run a hundred miles from Lachlan to avoid the mate bond, it’s too dangerous. I need his help to find the people who are after me, and there’s no way he’d let me go, anyway.

As much as I hate it, we’re going to have to team up to stop a madman. The hunt forces us into close proximity, and despite our best efforts to resist each other, it becomes harder every day. Fate seems determined to have its way, and what it wants is for me and Lachlan to be together.

Darkest Moon by Linsey Hall

Darkest Moon by Linsey Hall - 254 pages

Shadow Guild:  Wolf Queen #1

I’m supposed to be the Alpha's mate. Screw that.

Since I was born, I was destined to be one thing—the Alpha’s Mate. It should be every girl’s dream. Not mine, though. He’s too dark and damaged, and I’ve got a secret he can never know: I’m not a true wolf.

Instead of waiting for him to figure out I’m an abomination, I left on my fifteenth birthday. But I didn’t go far. No way in hell would I let fate drive me from the town I love.

Ten years later, I’m still hiding in plain sight. When I occasionally see him on the street—deadly, sexy, powerful--I just walk by. Keep my head down.

Until that night. Wrong place, wrong time, and suddenly I’m accused of murdering someone from my old pack. And he’s there. Blaming me. I’ve got one chance to prove my innocence and find the real killer, or I'm dead by shifter law.

Fortunately, the Alpha doesn't recognize me because I'm no longer the same ugly duckling. He senses I'm special though, and he won’t stop until he figures out the truth. But when he does, I’ll be in danger from more than just the murderer.

Fall Mountain Shifters #1

I knew nothing about mates until the alpha rejected me...

Growing up in one of the biggest packs in the world, my life is planned out from the second I turn eighteen and find my true mate in the moon ceremony.

Finding your true mate gives you the power to share the shifter energy they have, given to the males of the pack by the moon goddess herself. The power to shift into a wolf.

But for the first time in the history of our pack, the new alpha is mated with a nobody. A foster kid living in the packs orphanage with no ancestors or power to claim.

Me.

After being brutally rejected by my alpha mate, publicly humiliated and thrown away into the sea, the dark wolves of the Fall Mountain Pack find me.

They save me. The four alphas. The ones the world fears because of the darkness they live in.

In their world? Being rejected is the only way to join their pack. The only way their lost and forbidden god gives them the power to shift without a mate.

I spent my life worshipping the moon goddess when it turns out my life always belonged to another...

I always thought that this was a weird way to end these novels, with Bella almost dying to give birth to a half-vampire daughter and becoming immortal in the process; Jacob imprinting and declaring a newborn baby his soulmate...

The Werewolf of Fever Swamp (Goosebumps #14; Classic Goosebumps #11) by R.L. Stine-123 pages

In this Goosebumps tale, Grady and his sister, Emily, move to "Fever" Swamp in Florida with their parents. Their parents are scientists who are studying Swamp Deer. Grady soon meets a local boy his age and befriends him. Grady and Emily venture out into the nearby swamp and get lost. They encounter the Swamp Hermit, who then seemingly chases them. Later, Grady meets Cassie, a local girl his age, and she spouts off about a werewolf in the swamp. She thinks it's the Swamp Hermit. Grady hears terrifying howls one night during a full moon and starts to believe that Cassie might be right. Also, during this time Grady has an encounter with a stray dog that he names Wolf because of its close appearance to a wolf. Attacks on local animals begin occurring and everyone (except Grady) blames Wolf. Are the howls and attacks really Wolf? Could it really be a werewolf? If so, who is the werewolf? The ending to this one, as usual, is great and is somewhat of a cliffhanger.
