I've been looking forward to reading this book ever since finishing the first one last fall.  It's been a long wait but worth it.  I loved the blending of the various cultures -- Norse, Muslim, etc.  The only thing is that occasionally I felt the book was a little preachy in its explanations of gender-fluid persons.

For those who fell in love with the movie The Princess Bride, Cary Elwes, who played Westley, tells us his side of all that went into the making of it. From R.O.U.S.s and Giants to Sword-Fighting and knocking Westley out with a sword hilt, it is pretty exciting and just plain hilarious. 

This book brought back many memories and let me know more about the actors and directors of one of my favorite movies. 

The only negative thing I have to say about it is that Cary Elwes gives us a lot of backstory every time he meets with someone. "They were in this movie, this movie, this movie, and backstage in this movie, this movie, and this movie." I had to struggle through or skim over all the listing in order to get to the movie I was really interested in hearing about. 

Jack and the Seven Deadly Giants by Sam Swope

Jack is abandoned on the miller's step and from there his life is a never ending move from one home to another. His curiosity gets him into never-ending trouble and Jack ends up being labeled as a bad child. When he is blamed for seven deadly giants attacking villagers, the townspeople have him thrown out stating it's Jack's badness that brought the giants. Jack meets up with a fellow traveler who offers him a bean in exchange for food. The bean is magic and allows Jack one wish ... what he wishes most for is his mother, but gets a cow instead. As he travels along with the cow as his companion, he meets up with a variety of deadly giants. Jack's cleverness and curiosity leads him to out of dangerous situations until he finds his happy ending.

Sophie is stolen one night when she spies a giant mysteriously blowing things into children's bedrooms.  Turns out he is the Big Friendly Giant who likes to give children good dreams.  However, the other nine giants are not nearly so nice.  They spend each night roaming the world finding people to eat.  So Sophie and the Big Friendly Giant hatch a plan to stop them once and for all.

I am really enjoying my Roald Dahl listening.  This is the third book I've listened to.  I don't think we have any more in our system so this might be the last one I can listen to.
