Sweet Rein 2 by Sakura Tsukuba

Sweet Rein V. 2 by Sakura Tsukuba, 208 pages

Oh wow. An evil santa. The first book in the series was hysterical. This book is a little odd, and not just for the storyline this time. There is a Dark Santa out to separate Kurumi and Kaito from each other. He says he is there to test Kurumi.  When he severs the rein, Kurumi must mend it within 24 hours or she will never be a Santa again. It will take Kurumi's love and wits to mend it back together. The story is still cute with a few funny parts, though not as great as the first. I was thrown a little when a second manga was included in the book:  The Door To Eden is a separate, unrelated story.

Sweet Rein by Sakura Tsukuba

Sweet Rein by Sakura Tsukuba, 200 pages

OH MY GOODNESS!!! I am glad this manga book was recommended for me to read. It is absolutely hysterical! Reading took some getting used to, but - once I got the hang of how to read it properly, I couldn't put it down. It's very fast pace. The main character, Kurumi, is sad but not surprised to spend yet another Christmas Eve alone because her father has to work yet again. That is until she finds herself tethered to an unknown boy around her age by a rein. While she freaks and tries to detach herself, the boy literally is exuberant that he has found his Master and proceeds to get a little too close for comfort. Kaito is really a reindeer and Kurumi is the Santa he has been destined to be bound to. At first Kurumi is mortified to discover this truth, but soon starts to fall for Kaito (which is NEVER suppose to happen). Sparks fly throughout the pages. It's a very entertaining read. The supporting characters are well done. This three part series is more suitable for older teens and adults.

Sweet Rein, v. 1 by Sakura Tsukuba

Sweet Rein, v. 1 by Sakura Tsukuba - 191 pages

Imagine Kurumi Sagara's surprise when she is suddenly tied at the wrist to a strange boy that bumped into her while she was walking down the street.  Even more surprising is his story that she is a Santa and he is her reindeer.  He calls her master and asks for her bidding.  Shockingly, it turns out to be true.  Now Kurumi is attached to Kaito - trying to deliver presents to the kids in her district for Christmas.

The first story in the book gives the setup written above.  The second story is about sick kid Mamoru who Kurumi tries to arrange a miracle for.  The third story sets up the beginnings of a romance between Kurumi and Kaito.

The book also includes a short manga by Tsukuba called Sweet Bite Mark about a vampire who discovers he has a young daughter.

I picked up this manga as it was Christmas themed.  I haven't found too many holiday themed graphic novels other than Manga Klaus about a samurai Santa fighting evil ninja teddy bears.  This is obviously a much sweeter Christmas story.  It was also different in that it portrays "Santa" in the summer in two of the stories.  While it was a cute story, I'm not sure that I care enough to continue through the series.
