Down Range by Taylor Moore

Down Range by Taylor Moore--342 pages

#1 in the Garrett Kohl series.  Garrett is working as an undercover DEA agent in Afghanistan when his commander orders him home to Texas along with a special package he is to look after.  Normally a peaceful respite for him, he discovers that his home town has been taken over by a band of criminals.  Garrett tries to resolve things peacefully, but the criminals have other ideas.  They might just be surprised who they are up against.  Did I mention that he is also a hardened Green Beret!  I enjoyed it very much and look forward to the second one "Firestorm: A Novel".

Deadpool: Dead Presidents, v 1, by Brian Posehn and Gerry Duggan, ill Tony Moore

Deadpool, Vol. 1: Dead Presidents Deadpool: Dead Presidents, v 1, by Brian Posehn and Gerry Duggan, ill Tony Moore, 136 pages
Deadpool is a snarky, quipping mercenary who will fight the battles that are too dirty to sully the hands of the Avengers.  In this case, a villain has resurrected the dead former presidents to restore the country's honor- but then finds that these corpses are intent on ending the country.  Obviously it would be bad PR to have Captain America killing George Washington- so Deadpool is the man for the job.  Aided by the ghost of Ben Franklin, can Deadpool save America?  This series would probably really appeal to teenage boys.

Powerful Days: Civil Rights Photography of Charles Moore, by Charles Moore

Powerful Days: Civil Rights Photography of Charles Moore, by Charles Moore, 208 pages

Charles Moore can be remembered for some of the most stirring photographs of the civil rights movement (I'll leave the google image-searching to you).  Each section in this book explains what was going on in the time period that each group of photos represents.  From police dogs attacking protestors, to the funeral procession at Medgar Evers' funeral, the photographs largely speak for themselves.  I thought this was a good reminder of how close such a massive injustice sits in our country's past.

Runaways 10: Rock Zombies, by Terry Moore

Runaways 10: Rock Zombies, by Terry Moore, 112 pages

Chase is really enjoying his new job at the radio station- it's too bad that his boss happens to be broadcasting music with subliminal magic messages to transform anyone who's ever had plastic surgery into a thieving, murderous zombie.  And it's L.A., so that adds up to alot of scary zombies.  It's up to the runaways to reverse the evil magic, and make sure that none of the scary zombies get hurt.

This one was slightly better than volume 9, but I still think it's jumped the shark for me.

Runaways vol 9: Dead Wrong, by Terry Moore

Runaways 9: Dead Wrong, by Terry Moore, 136 pages

The Runaways are back together, back in Los Angeles, and back in the present time.  But nothing stays together for long- soldiers from Karolina's home planet, Majesdane, have come to take her away and put her on trial for her parents' treason.  All of the runaways find themselves pulled in different directions, and they must come together in order to keep Karolina and keep the peace.  Oh, and Chase gets a job.

I'm nearing my end with the Runaways- notice that the author (a new one) has his name even bigger than the title of the book- that's generally when I feel the book starts becoming more about the importance of the author and less about the quality of the series.
