Into the West by Mercedes Lackey

Into the West by Mercedes Lackey - 486 pages

Founding of Valdemar #2

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Baron Valdemar and his people have found a temporary haven, but it cannot hold all of them, or for long. Trouble could follow on their heels at any moment, and there are too many people for Crescent Lake to support. Those who are willing to make a further trek by barge on into the West will follow him into a wilderness depopulated by war and scarred by the terrible magics of a thousand years ago and the Mage Wars. But the wilderness is not as empty as it seems. There are potential friends and rapacious foes....

....and someone is watching them.

Stars of Fortune by Nora Roberts

Stars of Fortune by Nora Roberts - 336 pages

Sasha has been dreaming for months.  She dreams of people she hasn't met but seems to be extremely close with.  She dreams of a quest for stars fallen from the sky.  She dreams of a man she loves that will draw lightning from the sky.  Then she goes to the island of Corfu and meets these people . . .

This is the first book in Nora Roberts' latest trilogy -- The Guardians Trilogy.  I enjoyed the story.  The audio version I listened to was well done with a great narrator.

Necromancing the Stone by Lish McBride

Necromancing the Stone by Lish McBride - 344 pages

Sam's life isn't getting any better.  He's just getting used to being a necromancer with a ghost, werewolves, and a werebear as friends.  Now his mentor has been killed and it looks like another necromancer did it.
This is the sequel to Hold Me Closer, Necromancer.  I liked this one better.  It did take the first third of the book for setup.  It jumped right into the story.  I did think the characterization of the enemy was off - especially considering his past.

Hidden - P.C. Cast and Kristin Cast

Hidden by P.C. Cast and Kristin Cast - 302 pages

At last Zoey has what she wanted: The truth is out. Neferet's evil has been exposed, and the High Council is no longer on her side - but she's far from done wreaking havoc in the vampyre world. First, a mysterious fire ravages the stables. Then, Neferet makes a devastating move that will test them all.
With the seeds of distrust sown and Darkness breeding chaos at the House of Night, everyone must band together - but that's proving to be more difficult than ever before. The twins are barely speaking and the House of Night's former enemy, Kalona, has now become their warrior, pushing their trust to the limit. To top it off Zoey is pretty darn sure she might be losing her mind. She saw something when she looked at Aurox through the Seer Stone that she can hardly explain to herself, let alone her friends. Is it possible that Heath has come back in a different form? Is that why Zoey's so intrigued by Aurox, when it's so obvious that he's dangerous? And who would believe her if she told them?
