One of Us Knows by Alyssa Cole

⭐⭐⭐✩

One of Us Knows by Alyssa Cole - 352 pages

Years after a breakdown and a diagnosis of dissociative identity disorder derailed her historical preservationist career, Kenetria Nash and her alters have been given a second chance they can't refuse: a position as resident caretaker of a historic home. Having been dormant for years, Ken has no idea what led them to this isolated Hudson River Island, but she's determined not to ruin their opportunity.

Then a surprise visit from the home's conservation trust just as a Nor'easter bears down on the island disrupts her newfound life, leaving Ken trapped with a group of possibly dangerous strangers--including the man who brought her life tumbling down years earlier. When he turns up dead, Ken is the prime suspect.

Caught in a web of secrets and in a race against time, Ken and her alters must band together to prove their innocence and discover the truth of Kavanaugh Island--and their own past--or they risk losing not only their future, but their life.

This is the first book of this author's that I read.  I really liked the plot of this book and how she handled the character's DID.  She did a great job of defining each identity's personality and every character's personality also.  All of the chaos that happens in this book kept me reading; I blazed through this book in a couple of days; I couldn't put it down.

A Princess in Theory by Alyssa Cole

A Princess in Theory by Alyssa Cole, 373 pages

This book was recommended to me, and while I'm not a regular in the romance genre, it was refreshing to read a romance that focused on non-Eurocentric characters and culture (which, although the prince is from a fictional African kingdom, the culture Cole built draws from, Lesotho, is real).

The characters were well-developed and did not succumb to neither romanantic
nor ethnic-based tropes. Even though I enjoyed this book, I'm not sure I will read the second; it is supposed to center on one of the characters I enjoyed least.  Perhaps I'll just skip to the third; I wouldn't mind some more time in Thesolo.
