The Accident Season by Moira Fowley-Doyle

The Accident Season by Moira Fowley-Doyle - 291 pages

Every October, Cara and her family enter the Accident Season.  They get cuts, scrapes, broken bones, and when it is really bad -- someone dies.  This year's Accident Season is shaping up to be one of the worst.  Not a day goes by without several accidents happening to each of them.  And now Cara has realized that childhood friend Elsie is both stalking her everywhere she goes even though that same friend has completely disappeared from school and town.  Now they're finally asking questions -- about Elsie, about the accidents, and about the secrets that seem to be at core of everything.

This was a very interesting book.  It's one I've had on my to read list for a couple of years.  I thought it was going to be a fun, frothy kind of read from all of the reviews I had read.  Instead, it is a very disturbing and creepy read.  Yet, I couldn't stop reading.  The main character Cara is just unreliable enough that you spend most of the book wondering whether the paranormal aspects of the book are real or just delusions.  I would recommend this to readers who like serious, contemplative books.  I would also say it would be best to those who are comfortable reading non-American style writing as it has a distinct Irish feel to the writing.
