Eleanor and Park, by Rainbow Rowell

Eleanor and Park, by Rainbow Rowell, 320 pages

Eleanor is the new girl at school, and the butt of all the jokes.  Bright red hair, weird clothes, fish tackle in her hair- no one will let her sit next to them on the bus.  But Park takes pity and lets her sit next to him.  So begins this young adult romance set in 1986.  The non-traditional couple share an interest in comic books and The Smiths, and once Eleanor lets Park into her life, he sees that her life is nowhere near as carefree as his.
