"Daddy Long Legs" by Jean Webster,183 pages
I hadn't read this book for over 20 years, so thought I'd pull it off the shelf and refresh my memory. It was by far much better this time around than the first time. Miss Jerusha Abbot is an orphan who has spent her life in the harsh halls of the John Grier orphanage. When opportunity knocks in her 17th year of life to receive a full paid scholarship to a University and learn to be a writer, she jumps at the chance. The conditions, she must write a letter to "John Smith", the financier, once a month and tell of her progress and her life. He will never write her back or meet with her. She does so with a passion about every facet of her life. The book is written in the form of her letters. Curious about the title? It's the pet name that she gives "John Smith."
