At Princess Amethyst's christening, the fairies each gave her a gift. One fairy, aghast at the others' gifts decided to fix them all with one gift - the gift of being ordinary. So Princess Amethyst becomes Amy, a princess so plain and ordinary that no prince is interested in her. To keep her parents from destroying the country in an attempt to marry her off, Amy runs away where she meets a friend who is just as "ordinary" as she is. I enjoyed this original fairy tale for children. A wonderful book.
