This is one of the best books I have read in a long time! It was assigned reading because Jetta Carleton is a Missouri author. This is the only novel she has written. This novel is so well written, I could not help but become emotionally involved with the Soames family. The book is set in rural Missouri in the early part of the twentieth century. The story follows the family of four daughters through many tragedies in their lifetimes, while demonstrating the strength of the family bond. This is a heartfelt book, I strongly recommend.
