This is the second book in The Giver Quartet. The story is about Kira, a crippled girl living in a dystopian society that diminishes those with limitations/challenges, such as Kira. However, Kira is allowed to stay and is tasked with repairing/restoring the Singer's Robe. She soon finds out the truth behind the village/society she lives in. I like this book, but not as much as The Giver.

This is a story of a popular modern-day rapper who gets shot, and wakes up to find himself in antebellum America, where he is taken for a slave, brutalized, and eventually inspires a bloody revolt on the plantation and realizes how reprehensible his attitude was before he was shot.  Fans of urban fiction will probably like this. Those who bristle at speculative historical fiction probably won't.
