The Case Study of Vanitas by Jun Mochizuki

The Case Study of Vanitas by Jun Mochizuki - 246 pages

Noe has traveled to Paris to discover the truth behind the rumors of The Book of Vanitas.  Supposedly it is a book that gives the power to cure vampires.  Happily, he quickly runs into man claiming to be a vampire doctor who seems to have the Book in his possession . . .

I was really looking forward to reading this series as I loved Jun Mochizuki's previous series "Pandora Hearts".  I was disappointed.  I could not get into the story at all.  The characters were off-putting to me.  I will not be reading any further volumes.

Pandora Hearts Vol. 1 192 pages
 by Jun Mochizuki
I can't tell if this is supposed to be based on Alice in Wonderland or something else entirely. I found it to be a convoluted story with very little background information. I'm not particularly inclined to finish the series.

My Little Monster Vol. 1 169 pages
 by Robico
Chock full of socially awkward people doing weird things, I can't wait for volume two!

Red Queen 383 pages
 by Victoria Aveyard
I really don't know what to say about this book. I liked the story, but there are so many characters that didn't have enough background. She wants you to feel for them but they are no more than mannequins without thoughts and feelings of their own, just pose-able space holders to keep the dialogue going.

Pandora Hearts, v. 24 by Jun Mochizuki

Pandora Hearts, v. 24 by Jun Mochizuki - 336 pages

This was the final book of the Pandora Hearts manga series.  I absolutely loved the series.  I eagerly waited for the next volume to be released.  So I'm a little surprised at my feeling of disappointment.  I don't know if it is because I didn't care for the ending or if I'm just disappointed the series is over now.  The ending did work beautifully plot-wise and character-wise.  I think I just wanted the series to continue.  Either way -- I would strongly recommend this series to anyone who likes manga.

Oz has nearly completed his coming of age ceremony when he is thrown into the Abyss for the sin of existing.  There he meets the chain BRabbit and contracts with it to escape.  Back in the mortal world, he works with BRabbit's human form Alice to help her find her memories.

I love this manga.  While having multiple references to Alice in Wonderland it is not an actual retelling of the story.  A great manga for all.
