The Princess Diarist by Carrie Fisher

The Princess Diarist by Carrie Fisher, 257 pages

I love Fisher's voice and her humor. This memoir feels more raw than the others I've read, probably because there are pages from her actual diary. How bold to print one's private thoughts, even decades later!  But Fisher examines the girl she was and the princess she was made into without shame but with compassion. It was a moving read.

Wishful Drinking by Carrie Fisher

Wishful Drinking by Carrie Fisher, 163 pages (186 minutes)

Wishful Drinking is a charming and dazzlingly humorous memoir in which Carrie Fisher speaks insightfully on many topics, including by not limited to: electroshock thereapy, Hollywood incest amongst Hollywood royalty, how having Debbie Reynolds as her mother epically formed her life, the joys of mental illness, and just what one should do if one is forced into a metal bikini by a Hutt.

It's a fun read, and it's especially great to listen to the audiobook as it is read by Fisher herself.  RIP Space Mom

Carrie Fisher: Life on the Edge by Shelia Weller

Carrie Fisher: Life on the Edge by Shelia Weller, 367 pages

This was one of the best biographies I have read in a long time.  Shelia details every aspect of Carrie's life, year by year, month by month.  What she writes about Carrie is so shocking and very revealing.  Shelia also details Carries brushes with death and her severe mental problems and drug addiction.  This was a great book especially if you are a fan of Carrie Fisher.

The Princess Diarist by Carrie Fisher

The Princess Diarist by Carrie Fisher-257 pages

I wanted to read this since Carrie Fisher just passed away and I am a fan of Star Wars. I enjoyed reading this and it was enthralling to read her candid thoughts, both at the time and now, on her affair with Harrison Ford, her becoming a celebrity/star, and being Princess Leia. Overall, I am glad that I read it. It is an easy, flowing read.

The Princess Diarist by Carrie Fisher

The Princess Diarist by Carrie Fisher, 257 pages

I so eagerly anticipated the arrival of this book.  I had heard that it had something to do with an affair Carrie had with Harrison Ford during the filming of Star Wars.  I thought the book would be just a small snippet of the tryst, but what I found was that this was the basis of the entire book.  I am not sure how I felt after reading this.  Harrison Ford was married at the time and Carrie was very young.  I believe she was around 19 at the time.  Carrie does not divulge much about the affair except it was purely physical and ended after their return to the United States.  What Carrie does delve into is how filming a movie at such a young age affected her confidence and self esteem.  Also, being one of the only females involved with the filming of Star Wars was also a very interesting fact.

Wishful Drinking by Carrie Fisher

176 pp. One of several candid memoirs written by Carrie Fisher, she details her childhood growing up the child of Hollywood stars, her addiction to alcohol and prescription drugs, and her bipolar diagnosis and subsequent electroshock therapy treatments. Tongue-in-cheek, self-deprecating, and witty.
