Edge Of Valor by Kyla Stone

Edge Of Valor by Kyla Stone-386 pages

Edge Of Collapse Series #7 (Final)

The final battle for Fall Creek looms......and not everyone will make it out alive.
With enemies closing in on every side, the survivors of Fall Creek find themselves facing impossible odds.

Do they flee for their lives? Or do they defend their town and risk losing it all? Some things are worth fighting for, dying for.  Liam has trained them all very well, but will it be good enough?

I was happy with the finale, sad at some who were lost.  She wrapped it all up very nicely.  I highly recommend this series.

Edge Of Collapse Series #6

Three months after an EMP attack destroys the U.S. power grid, starvation, disease, and the brutal cold have killed millions. With the end of winter finally in sight, the town balances on the edge of collapse.

They have suffered and sacrificed. But to forge a future worth living, they will have to face the darkness within themselves. Who will survive?  Who will prove themselves a hero?  Who will be shamed?
LOVE this series.  Unbelievable what these people go up against.  Hopefully we will all have a Liam in our life if the world ever comes to this!

The Magnificent Lives of Marjorie Post by Allison Pataki

The Magnificent Lives of Marjorie Post by Allison Pataki-375 pages

Growing up in the modest farmlands of Battle Creek, Michigan, Marjorie was inspired by a few simple rules: always think for yourself, never take success for granted, and work hard—even when deemed American royalty, even while covered in imperial diamonds. Marjorie had an insatiable drive to live and love and to give more than she got. From crawling through Moscow warehouses to rescue the Tsar's treasures to outrunning the Nazis in London, from serving the homeless of the Great Depression to entertaining Roosevelts, Kennedys, and Hollywood's biggest stars, Marjorie Merriweather Post lived an epic life few could imagine.

Marjorie's journey began gluing cereal boxes in her father's barn as a young girl. No one could have predicted that C. W. Post's Cereal Company would grow into the General Foods empire and reshape the American way of life, with Marjorie as its heiress and leading lady. Not content to stay in her prescribed roles of high-society wife, mother, and hostess, Marjorie dared to demand more, making history in the process. Before turning thirty she amassed millions, becoming the wealthiest woman in the United States. But it was her life-force, advocacy, passion, and adventurous spirit that led to her stunning legacy.

And yet Marjorie's story, though full of beauty and grandeur, set in the palatial homes she built such as Mar-a-Lago, was equally marked by challenge and tumult. A wife four times over, Marjorie sought her happily-ever-after with the blue-blooded party boy who could not outrun his demons, the charismatic financier whose charm turned to betrayal, the international diplomat with a dark side, and the bon vivant whose shocking secrets would shake Marjorie and all of society. Marjorie did everything on a grand scale, especially when it came to love.
Excellent book...Loved learning about this grand lady and this little snippet of history.

Tom Lake : A novel by Ann Patchett

Tom Lake : A novel by Ann Patchett-309 pages

It's spring and Lara's three grown daughters have returned to the family orchard. While picking cherries, they beg their mother to tell them the one story they've always longed to hear – of the film star with whom she shared a stage, and a romance, years before.

Tom Lake is a meditation on youthful love, married love, and the lives parents have led before their children were born.
A good read, though it seemed to lag a bit in parts.

A Dog's Perfect Christmas by W. Bruce Cameron

 288 pages

"The problems fracturing the Goss family as Christmas approaches are hardly unique, though perhaps they are handling them a little differently than most people might. But then a true emergency arises, one with the potential to not only ruin Christmas, but everything holding the family together.

"Is the arrival of a lost puppy yet another in the string of calamities facing them, or could the little canine be just what they all need?"  --from the publisher

This is the first book I've read by Cameron so I don't know if they are all written in the same format. From the title, I thought the book would be told from a dog's perspective, but the voice bounces back and forth from character to character. There are also frequent (every few pages) time lapses in the story. These two things make the tale very disjointed. That said, I did enjoy the characters. They were portrayed pretty realistically, imho. I give it three out of five stars.
