I wanted to read this book because I find pirate history/pirates fascinating. In this Berenstain Bears adventure, Brother, Sister, and Honey Bear go to the beach and see a shipwreck. They imagine themselves as pirates looking for pirate treasure. This is another enjoyable Berenstain Bears story.

In this adventure, the Bear family visits the theme park Grizzlyland, which resembles Walt Disney World/Disneyland (especially with the "Pirates of the Bearibbean" ride). Papa Bear wants to ride Pirates of the Bearibbean, but they end up riding a few rides and eating lunch before finally riding it. I went with my family to Walt Disney World 2 years ago, so this reminded me of that trip (albeit my family and I were older than the Bear family).

Sister and Brother Bear are in the back yard digging up "treasures" when Mama and Papa Bear mention that a professor has been digging up history. The Bear family goes to see the work this professor is doing and end up taking his "Anytime-Anyyear Machine back in time to the periods mentioned above.

I enjoyed reading Berenstain Bears (and watching the show) as a kid, so I wanted to read a few picture books for the challenge this month. I was in the school spelling bee a few times (and finished 2nd 3 times), so this book looked interesting to me. I enjoyed reading this. The cool thing about the Berenstain Bears is that it offers a lesson to kids and this one is no different. Papa Bear pushes Sister Bear when he learns that she has won her class spelling bee and has made the school spelling bee. He is vicarious about Sister Bear's being in the school spelling bee (which is a word Sister Bear must spell during the spelling bee) and he only realizes it when Sister Bear has to spell the word correctly. The lesson offered is to not take undue pleasure from another's success and push him or her too hard.

The Berenstain Bears Forget Their Manners

It started with the child bears occasionally forgetting to use their manners to not using their manners at all. Mother bear had had enough of this behavior and decided that there needed to be consequences for the bad behavior. She came up with an idea to correct this problem and soon enough it did.
