Classic Star Wars: Luke's Fate (A Step Into Reading Level 3 book) by Jim K. Thomas , Isidre Monés

Classic Star Wars: Luke's Fate (A Step Into Reading Level 3 book) by Jim K. ThomasIsidre Monés-48 pages

⭐⭐⭐⭐

Illustrated in full color. Readers are introduced to young Luke Skywalker, who dreams of being a star pilot but has to stay planetbound, helping his uncle run the farm. Then the droids R2-D2 and C-3PO show up...and Luke's destiny beckons irresistibly. Based on the beginning sequences of the original Star Wars movie and radio plays.

Thoughts: I enjoyed reading this children's novelization of the beginning of Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. It starts a bit before the movie and covers up until Obi-Wan and Luke agree to travel together to Alderaan after seeing Princess Leia's message. It was a fun little read.

Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Paterson

Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Paterson - 128 pages

Jess Aarons' greatest ambition is to be the fastest runner in his grade. He's been practicing all summer and can't wait to see his classmates' faces when he beats them all. But on the first day of school, a new girl boldly crosses over to the boys' side and outruns everyone.

That's not a very promising beginning for a friendship, but Jess and Leslie Burke become inseparable. Together they create Terabithia, a magical kingdom in the woods where the two of them reign as king and queen, and their imaginations set the only limits.

Opinion: This was a good--but sad--short read. I saw the movie when I was younger, but it's been so long I didn't remember any details beyond that Leslie died. The book is comforting--Paterson does a great job of capturing the magic kids create with play pretend.

 That's Betty! By: Gregory Bonsignore

Pages:40

I personally think Betty White is a gem. When I saw this book, I knew I had to read it. I knew Betty White had played a lot of roles in her life. Accomplishing quite a bit over the years,  I learned a lot reading this.  As the kid in the story says , she was a trailblazer of a woman.

This story is informative, but also really fun to read. It follows a student giving a school project. Which he chose Betty White. Through out the book a woman has conversations with the kid about his project. She helps him along the way, telling him different things that Betty did. Such as hosting the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade for over ten years! She even holds the Guinness World Record of longest television career in history.

If you want a good read that's informative but also well illustrated and written, you should give this one a try. Betty would approve.

5 Paws all around.

Old Black Witch by Wende Devlin - 32 Pages

The Dream for Nicky and his mother was just that, a dream. That was until they found the perfect Old New England house to transform into a tearoom. What they did not plan on was the cranky and eccentric Witch that resided within. A little trouble with robbers, or how flying blueberry pancakes would go over with the guests.

If you would like to whip up a batch yourself, you can! The book has a copy on the back.
