The Lost Apothecary by Sarah Penner 320 pages
This book moves between two timelines, one is present day Caroline who is on her 10 year anniversary trip to London, alone, because she just discovered her husband was cheating on her (this is not a spoiler, it is in the book's summary on goodreads). The other two are Nella and Eliza whose timelines take place back 1792. Nella, is the owner of an apothecary shop that discreetly sells a variety of poison to women which they use on men who have done them wrong. Eliza is a young girl who befriends Nella and wants to apprentice at her shop. The two storylines intertwine when Caroline stumbles upon an old apothecary vial and decides to look into the history of it and begins to uncover the twisted truth.I really wanted to like this book but I just didn't. I could write an entire essay on why I didn't but it would be filled with a lot of spoilers which I don't want to do incase anyone else wants to read it. However, in summary I felt the feminist theme was too in your face.
