A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess

A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess - 240 pages

In a futuristic England, Alex and his "droogs" cause chaos and violence.  They speak a Russian-influenced version of English, with some influence of Cockney rhyming slang.  After he is jailed for murdering the local cat lady, Alex agrees to be subject to a behavioral modification program in exchange for his freedom.  He is conditioned to be disgusted by the things he was previously  enamored with and notorious for - chaos and violence.  Released to back into the world, Alex is left defenseless as his prior victims attempt their revenge.
