Sensible Shoes: A Story About the Spiritual Journey
by Sharon Garlough Brown
349 pages
Four women experience renewal in very different ways as they participate in a series of biblical-oriented, introspective sessions at a retreat center. They journey through their pain, grief, fears, and blind spots to find joy and freedom. The story touches on their friendship as well, but much less so than their private experiences.
Good writing and great insight make the characters come alive, and one can't help but identify with the various ways they've become spiritually "stuck." The ending leaves the reader with a sense of hope that it's never too late to grow closer to God.
