The Gentlemen’s Alliance Cross v. 1 by Arina Tanemura – 208 pages

The Gentlemen’s Alliance Cross v. 1 by Arina Tanemura – 208 pages

Haine goes to a school for children of the rich and privileged.  She secretly has a crush on the “emperor”, the president of the student council, Shizumasa.  By “saving” him from a fake kidnapping, she gets appointed to the student council to be his bodyguard.  She starts to see how the school is really secretly run, and finds out Shizumasa is more interested in guys than girls.  When the emperor banishes the heretics- the group of delinquent students- they revolt, and Haine’s swift sword saves the day.  She learns Shizumasa’s interest in boys is only a cover to avoid being bothered by girls.  Can she win his love after all?

Densely shaded and lined pages present an overabundance of visual wealth in this manga.  I was only somewhat sympathetic to the hyperactive Haine as a heroine, and the cold emperor wasn’t terribly enigmatic.  I will take a pass on reading any more of this series.
