Horton Hatches the Egg by Dr. Seuss

Horton Hatches the Egg by Dr. Seuss, 46 pages

Dr. Seuss passed away in 1991 at the age of 87 years.  His birthday was March 2 and is still celebrated in many ways around the United States.  Children eat green eggs and ham, and libraries and schools dedicate the day to reading his stories.

I have read many Dr. Seuss books, but never this one.  As an adult, I still love Dr. Seuss stories. They never fail to make me smile.

In Horton Hatches the Egg, Horton is an elephant who is asked by Mayzie to sit on an egg in her nest.  Horton does it.  What will happen when an elephant sits on an egg?  Will it crack?  What happens proves that elephants are true and faithful animals.  The ending will surprise you.  Afterall, have you ever seen an elephant with wings or a bird with a trunk?
