"Torn" by Amanda Hocking , 324 pages
(Book 2 of the Trylle Series)
Picking up where book one left off, Wendy has escaped her mother's kingdom and returned to her human home with someone in tow. Kidnapped by the Vittra, secrets are revealed before she is rescued leaving Wendy reeling from the blow. Worse yet, she finds that she is inexplicably drawn to a Vittra who should be her enemy.
Once she is rescued, Wendy decides to take her responsibilities as soon-to-be-queen seriously. Soon she is back among her people, this time with her human brothers in tow. As she learns more about who she is and how to harness the powers she possesses, Wendy begins to realize the enormous responsibility that is upon her shoulders. She now knows there is more at stake in this world than her own heart and she must put duty first before all else -- a lifetime of servitude as Queen.
The author takes us through so many twists and turns in this novel that it's hard to cram everything into 324 pages. I wish she would have taken a bit more pages to expound on some parts that seemed too short and too easily solved. For instance, she is taken prisoner for no more than a day, it seems, before she is easily rescued -- conveniently _after_ she finds out more about her past. There is no action, no suspense, etc. Just a simple "Your my prisoner!" to a "I'm rescued!" within a span of a few pages. All in all, it was still a good story and I will be reading the next book in the series.
