Title: Harley Loco; Author: Rayya Elias; Pages: 320
Intro: I devoured this memoir. I started reading it in the afternoon a few days ago, and then stayed up past 3am the same day to finish it.
Synopsis: Rayya, an immigrant from the Middle East immerses herself into American culture by moving to New York City to be a beautician. She even practices her English so that she rids herself of her Middle Eastern accent. However, upon arriving in New York, Rayya falls victim to the allure of street drugs and prescription drugs. Also during this point in time, she realizes that she is a lesbian. Later in the book Rayya gets put in prison on drug charges, but earns herself a position as a hairdresser in Sing Sing prison. Rayya's life is fast-paced and full of drama and leaves you wanting more.
Review: This book was amazing. As I said earlier, I could not put it down. I found myself trying to read faster just so I could digest as much information as possible, as quickly as possible. I have read several memoirs, and this one ranks near the top of the list for non-stop drama and entertainment.
