Magician's Ward by Patricia C. Wrede

Magician's Ward by Patricia C. Wrede - 288 pages

Former street thief Kim has been living as a magician's apprentice and ward to Mairelon for a year when they return to London during the Season.  Suddenly Kim finds herself having to make morning calls, attend nightly parties, and make her debut at her coming out ball.  Amidst all this, Mairelon is attacked and loses his magic.  It seems that the root of the attack is coming from Kim's former life.  Now she must not only navigate London Society but also her former street world.
I liked this sequel better than their first book -- Mairelon the Magician -- probably because I already knew the characters.  There also seemed to be more humor in this book -- mainly in Kim's dealings with Society.
