Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn

Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn, 419 pages

I bought this book last summer thinking I could not wait to start reading it.  Well, it took me almost a year to get into reading it.  I bought this book because it was a bestseller, and I heard Reese Witherspoon bought the rights to the movie.  I thought the movie would have been made by now, but I am still waiting.

I am not sure why it took me 200 pages to get into this book.  Maybe, I just did not care for the characters.  There was no one to cheer for in this book.  I wanted to cheer for the husband, but he was almost as bad as the wife.  Gone Girl is a suspenseful read about a married couple who are about to celebrate their fifth anniversary, when Amy, the wife, goes missing.  What follows is 200 pages of us believing the husband, Nick, killed Amy for the money.  Then, the book takes a surprising twist.  I won't spoil it for anyone who wants to read the book.  As popular as this book is, I am surprised I had not heard the twists and surprising ending.  Let's just say the ending was not what I expected.  An interesting fact about this book, I did not know until I read it, was it takes place in Carthage, Missouri.  It is implied Carthage is very close to St. Louis, but in reality, it's about 4 1/2 hours away.  I would recommend this book if you don't care if there is an underdog in the story, and you like slow moving suspense stories.
