Milisant is engaged to Wulfric. Betrothed to each other by their fathers when they were still just children, neither of them thinks they will suit each other. As Wulfric comes to claim his bride (or find a way to break the betrothal) Milisant's father has given her a month to accustom herself to becoming a bride. As they each try to find a way to break the engagement, the find that they are falling in love. An outside threat to Milisant's life threatens the joy that they are coming to find.
