This book is a history of the hymnody of the Christian church from biblical times through present day. The main portion of the book is similar to the first two books in the series (which I own) in that it gives a hymn and then the history of that hymn and its writer. This book also gives reasoning for using hymns in your private life and for incorporating contemporary hymns and old, traditional hymns in public worship. This was an excellent book that I hope to purchase for my personal collection.
