The Irish Bride by Cynthia Bailey Pratt

The Irish Bride by Cynthia Bailey Pratt, 245 pages

A spin off of Shakespeare's "Taming of the Shrew", The Irish Bride is a very quick and somewhat entertaining read. Sir Nicholas Kirwan returns from the war with Napoleon to discover his family's estate is in jeopardy due to the gamblings of his now deceased father. When he meets the gorgeous and sought after Blanche Ferris he discovers she has an older sister, Rietta, with a larger dowry for the man that can win her. Rietta is not so easily won as she is considered the town's "shrew." Sir Nicholas family will be set for life, though, if he can win her heart. The story has a lot of potential, but falls short of being a good read. There are a lot of storylines that are quickly "patched up" as if the author ran out of ideas. What started out as a promising story ended with disappointment.
