Megan is shocked to discover the new police chief in town is actually Wayne Ferris, the man who broke her heart and finding out she was pregnant. He swears that he didn't mean to hurt her and only said those things to get her to leave to keep her safe. Megan's not sure she buys that though. Who would be so cruel just to keep a person safe? But then they start having several mysteries in town. There's a rash of practical jokes around town. There's an environmental company that is after Megan's research. And there's an unknown creature (which looks suspiciously like a dragon) breaking into businesses downtown and stealing the candy. Now they have to work together to try to solve all the mysteries while trying to work on their relationship.
This is another book in Janet Chapman's Highlander series. It takes place between the previous two Highlander books I've read. I enjoyed this one quite a bit, especially the shaman magic and dreams that include the unborn baby.
