A Confusion of Princes by Garth Nix

A Confusion of Princes by Garth Nix - 352 pages

19 year old Khemri was taken from his parents as a child to be raised as a superhuman "Prince" to serve the galactic empire and the "Imperial Mind."  It's a little like Star Wars if the Jedi were just lackeys for the Empire.  Khemri begins to doubt that being a prince is all the glory and wonder he thought it would be.  When he gets tapped for a secret mission and has to spend time among the masses as a regular person he begins to want a different destiny and to try and find his own way in the world.  Nix's books are action packed and he excels at creating realistic characters within a fantastical realm.
