I was always afraid to read this book, because I have heard how descriptive it was, but I also have heard that it was such a good book. I decided to read this after my son in the seventh grade was given the assignment to read this in English class. A Child Called "It" is a compelling story about Dave Pelzer who is being raised by both parents until his father leaves the family. This is a very disturbing and shocking story of child abuse. David is severely beaten and starved by his mother. It was very shocking that no one stopped the abuse sooner, especially his father, who seemed to know everything the mother was doing to him.
