Clara and Mr Tiffany Susan Vreeland

Clara and Mr. Tiffany   by Susan Vreeland--397 pages

This is the first book of Susan Vreeland's I have read.  What a great story!!
Clara Driscoll, head of the Women's Division of Tiffany Studios in late 1890's to the early 1900's is a remarkable freethinking woman. She conceives and designs nearly all of the iconic leaded glass lamps that Mr. Louis Comfort Tiffany is famous for.  Mr. Tiffany has one very strict policy concerning women - he does not hire married women and any who do marry while working for him must resign immediately.  Clara must eventually decide what makes her happiest in life - her professional art world or the personal world of forever love.
Ms. Vreeland has shown the unforgettable and extraordinary lives of the people living in New York City at the turn of the twentieth century.  The wealthy that are able to pay $350 for a custom made Tiffany lamp to the poverty-stricken women artists who only make $7.50 a week.
I definitely plan on reading more of Ms. Vreeland's work.
