Devine Intervention by Martha Brockenbrough - 295 pages
Heidi has always heard Jerome's voice in her head - giving her advice, singing classic rock songs, and generally being annoying. What she doesn't know is that he is her guardian angel. He's on probation and can only avoid going to Hell by safely guiding her soul through life. The only problem is that he isn't very good at being a guardian angel. He lets her embaress herself at the high school talent show, he causes her to talk aloud to herself making everyone think she's crazy, and he causes her soul to seperate from her body when she drowns in the pond. Now they have 24 hours to try to get Heidi into Heaven or Jerome will be spending the rest of eternity in Hell.
I really enjoyed this book. The interaction between Heidi and Jerome is funny and touching at the same time. The gradual redemption of Jerome is believable. This was a truly different take on the current fad of angel books for teens.
