Super Team (Fables vol 16), by Bill Willingham, 160 pages
I can’t seem to get anyone else as interested in this series as I am. The Fables series revolves around a group of fairy tale characters living in ‘the real world’ of New York City . I can’t get enough of fairytale re-makes, and I enjoy graphic novels, so this is kind of perfect. I highly recommend it. In this latest installment, the community is still battling Mr. Dark, we find out what the evil Mrs. Spratt has been up to, Bigby’s father, the North Wind, has an important decision to make, and Pinocchio and Ozma are organizing a team of fairy tale superheroes!
While the superhero angle is clearly the best part- I mean, check out the cover!- it isn’t as fully developed as I was hoping. I guess that for a graphic novel series fighting the stigma that all graphic novels are ‘comic books’ they might not want to fully indulge a whole volume to being in the comic book style. That makes sense. But it still would have been awesome to see Pinocchio fighting, Professor Xavier-style. I would say suitable for older teens and adults.
