Isle of 100,000 Graves, by Fabien Vehlmann and Jason

Isle of 100,000 Graves, by Fabien Vehlmann and Jason, 56 pages

I love the cartoon style of the Norwegian artist, Jason- and Vehlmann's writing makes this work both funny, dark, and bittersweet all at once.  Gwenny's father disappeared years ago searching for the Isle of 100,000 Graves, where there are treasures rumored to be. When Gwenny finds a map to the island, she recruits a staffed pirate ship to take her on a journey to find out what happened to her father.  The island's secret turns out to be both dark and humorous, and while Gwenny finds a friend as a result of the journey, it's not who she expected it to be.

It's not very graphic, but the themes are mature enough that I would recommend for teens and adults.  And I think adults might get more out of it.
