This standalone by the prolific Kellerman of Alex Delaware fame features psychologist Grace Blades who has a gift for treating those haunted by horrific events in their lives.  Blades' backstory is intriguing and at times more interesting than the present day elements of the plot.  A mysterious stranger enters her life and his search for clarity quickly becomes Blades' own when she's drawn into a world of violent secret machinations that threaten her safety.  The Delaware series is getting a little tired so this is a nice turn for Kellerman to possibly feature a new protagonist in the future.

Skye is horrified to discover herself back in Scumble River after declaring it too small during her high school valedictorian speech.  But after being fired from her previous job for having too much ethics she doesn't really have a choice.  So now she is working for the local school district that doesn't really want her.  Unfortunately, one the first things that happens to her once back in town is her finding a dead body.  Then her brother is arrested the lady's murder.  Now Skye must figure out who the real killer is so she can save her brother.
I read the newest Scumble River mystery before picking up this one.  I really enjoyed it and decided to read the entire series.  I'm glad I did.  The book was very quick and fun to read.
