Spirits That Walk in Shadow by Nina Kiriki Hoffman

Spirits That Walk in Shadow by Nina Kiriki Hoffman - 306 pages

Jaime is attending college and interacting with the outside world for the first time in her life.  She knows she is going to have to hide her magic from her fellow students.  Little does she know that her roommate is the victim of a viri, a vampire-like creature that feeds on the emotions of people.

I really enjoyed this book.  I didn't realize that it is a sequel to a previous book.  I'll have to try to find it to read.

Past the Size of Dreaming by Nina Kiriki Hoffman

Past the Size of Dreaming by Nina Kiriki Hoffman - 342 pages

House has a dream.  She wants to leave her confines and transform herself.  To do this she draws together her "children" to help with the transformation. Unfortunately, this also draws the attention of an evil wizard from the past who wants her children's powers.

This is the sequel to A Red Heart of Memories.  I really enjoyed this book.  It has a truly unique premise that I have not read before.  I liked the various characters and wish there were books about them.

A Red Heart of Memories by Nina Kiriki Hoffman

A Red Heart of Memories by Nina Kirki Hoffman - 329 pages

Even though Matt can talk to inanimate object, she is surprised when a cemetery wall starts to move and a man walks out of it.  That is how she meets Edmund, who is a witch following Spirit to help others.  Now Matt must help Edmund reconcile the parts of himself to discover what happened to cause Edmund to forget an event that changed his life.

This was an interesting book. I picked it up because it had a color in the title for this month's reading challenge.  However, it had one of the more unusual set-ups for a story that I've read.  I'm looking forward to continuing to read Matt and Edmund's story in the sequel.

Spirits That Walk in Shadow by Nina Kiriki Hoffman

Spirits That Walk in Shadow by Nina Kiriki Hoffman - 306 pages

Jaimie's first real experience with the "outside" world is when her father drops her off at college.  It's her attempt to live in the non-magical world she grew up in.  Unfortunately, her roommate seems to have attracted the attention of a creature that is feeding off of her depression.  Now Jaimie must work with her cousins to help her roommate escape from the creature's clutches.

I love Nina Kiriki Hoffman's books.  They are so delightfully weird.  They never go in the direction you think they are going to.  This book is the teen sequel to a couple of adult novels she had previously written.  I have not read those books yet but look forward to doing so.
