The Shuddering by Ania Ahlborn

The Shuddering by Ania Ahlborn - 283 pages

They only come when it snows, and nobody ever gets away.

A group of close friends gathers at a secluded cabin in the wintry mountains of Colorado for a final holiday hurrah. Instead, it may be their last stand. First a massive blizzard leaves them marooned. Then the more chilling realization: something is lurking in the woods, watching them, waiting...

Now a weekend of family, friends, and fun has turned into a test of love and loyalty in the face of inhuman horrors. The only hope for those huddled inside is to fight—tooth and nail, bullet and blade—for their lives. Otherwise, they'll end up like the monsters' other victims: bright pools of blood on glittering snow, screams lost in the vast mountains.
This book was great for the last 100 or so pages.  Before that it seemed more like a love story than horror, but I understand that build up needs to happen.  I just think it was a bit more than I wanted to see in a horror book.  I liked how the author described the "hellions" as well as their actions, they sound pretty scary.  Overall, the book was good, but the ending was fantastic!

Stolen Tongues by Felix Blackwell

 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Stolen Tongues by Felix Blackwell - 306 pages

A romantic cabin getaway doesn’t go exactly as planned. High up on the windswept cliffs of Pale Peak, Faye and Felix celebrate their new engagement. But soon, a chorus of ghastly noises erupts from the nearby the screams of animals, the cries of children, and the mad babble of a hundred mournful voices. A dark figure looms near the windows in the dead of night, whispering to Faye. As the weather turns deadly, Felix discovers that his terrified fiancĂ©e isn’t just mumbling in her sleep – she’s whispering back. Originally a contest-winning story on reddit.com’s horror community NoSleep , Stolen Tongues has received widespread acclaim and is now being adapted into a feature film.

If you are a fan of horror this is a must read.  I normally don't get creepy vibes from horror books but this one did just that.  The thought of something out in the dark woods mimicking loved ones trying to lure you out gave me the willies.  When I finished this book, initially I was let down by the ending.  Thinking on it now I don't think it was terrible, it did end well, just not how I expected it to.

Tracking Game by Margaret Mizushima

Tracking Game by Margaret Mizushima-280 pages

This is the fifth installment in the Timber Cree K-9 Mystery series.  I enjoy following Mattie and her K-9 police dog Robo in their mysteries because they seem to move as one.  Mattie has had a tough life and through the series you watch her learning to deal with her past and allowing herself to love and be loved.  The murders usually always take place in the mountains, so there is always rugged terrain to deal with.  And then there is the harsh weather.  And in this particular installment there is also an uncommon predator running loose in the mountains.  Its a hard one to put down with all the different characters and plots.  I recommend the entire series.

Dark Price by Christine Feehan; 484 pgs

Dark Prince by Christine Feehan is all about vampires. This twist on your average vampire goes in to how these Carpathian males are an entirely different species. That's right a new species! A human, psychic woman falling for an arrogant male vampire. Yeah, yeah typical for a paranormal romance or any romance, but something we can never get enough of.

Anyways, all and all, it was a pretty good book. You have your plot twist and turns and several different foes that factor into all one big plan on attacking the leader of these people. You have your ups and downs of the two main characters love relationship.
