This one is a real bargain, multiple stories in one novel.
Our favorite homicide detective juggles three separate cases. Harry Bosch is
working on his assigned cold case – the 15-year old disappearance of a new
mother – when he is pulled into a present-day double murder investigation. He
is also confronted with one of his own old cases: a lawyer has presented new
DNA evidence, and Bosch must defend his integrity as a police officer as well
as his personal honor by proving that he did not put an innocent man on death row.
Top-notch series entry.

The Late Show by Michael Connelly
The Late Show by Michael Connelly
(Renee Ballard #1)
448 pages / 9 hrs, 22 mins
"Renee Ballard works the night shift in Hollywood, beginning many investigations but finishing none as each morning she turns her cases over to day shift detectives. A once up-and-coming detective, she's been given this beat as a punishment after filing a sexual harassment complaint against a supervisor.
"But one night she catches two cases she doesn't want to part with: the brutal beating of a prostitute left for dead in a parking lot and the killing of a young woman in a nightclub shooting. Ballard is determined not to give up at dawn. Against orders and her own partner's wishes, she works both cases by day while maintaining her shift by night." --from the publisher
Connelly hooked me right away with this character who is driven to see justice done no matter the cost. She is compassionate, smart, athletic, outspoken, and lives life on her own terms.
