Wyoming Game Warden Joe Pickett is on routine patrol when he runs into his neighbor Butch Roberson who is out hunting.  Only later does Joe find out that Butch is a suspect in the death of two EPA agents and the subject of a manhunt.  Most of the following narrative is a chase scene through the back country.  Box's visual descriptions are stunning as always and the trip down the river is especially memorable.  There is a strong anti-government regulation agenda in the book that does slightly overwhelm the plot at points.

In the latest Joe Pickett mystery, Joe is actually more of a supporting character.  Joe's friend, the outlaw Nate Romanowski, takes center stage and we actually get to know his troubled past while serving in the Special Forces.  Box captures the sense of place so well in his books that you can feel the wind through the trees and just see the open canyons of Wyoming.  Nature is as strong of a character as any of the people in the story.  This book will be best if you read the earlier books in the series.
