The Hot Zone by Jayne Castle

The Hot Zone by Jayne Castle - 338 pages
A Rainshadow Novel

Sedona Snow has just started feeling safe on Rainshadow Island when the new Guild boss Cyrus Jones shows up.  Sedona has been leery of the Guild ever since she was kidnapped on his last Guild job and subjected to experimental drugs.  It turns out that Cyrus is interested in Sedona, however, he wants to protect her from the men who originally kidnapped and experimented on her.

This is one of the futuristic paranormal romances written by Jayne Ann Krentz under her pen name Jayne Castle.  I listened to this book on audio and did enjoy the story.  However, the audio production values were poor.  There were weird pauses during the narration.  This was in addition to the fact that the narrator had a cadence like William Shatner.  It was very distracting from the story itself.

The Hot Zone by Jayne Castle

The Hot Zone by Jayne Castle - 388 pages

Sedona Snow moved to Rainshadow Island after escaping from a mad scientist that had kidnapped her to run experiments on her psychic nature.  She feels safe on Rainshadow.  Then the new guild boss Cyrus Jones shows up.  At the same time, someone tries to kidnap her again, her ex-husband shows up, and her estranged family tries to contact her.  Can Cyrus help her figure out what is going on?

While I enjoyed the story, I did not like the narration of this audio.  It had a lot of really awkward pauses in the narration.  At times I was reminded of William Shatner's style of narration.  But other than that, an enjoyable story.

The Hot Zone by Jayne Castle

The Hot Zone by Jayne Castle - 338 pages

Sedona Snow moved to Rainshadow Island after escaping from a mad scientist that was running experiments on her.  Those experiments have changed her talent to include controlling fire.  Now Cyrus Jones, the new Guild boss, has come to Rainshadow to clear out the Underground of monsters.  He's determined to do his job to protect not just Rainshadow, but also Sedona from those trying to recapture her.

This futuristic Harmony novel ties into both the Rainshadow series and the Arcane Society novels.  It was a very quick fun read.  I enjoyed catching up on the stories of several characters referenced in previous novels.
