There's a new sheriff in town (new master vampire Constance) and she wants Rachel gone yesterday.   Constance takes on all of Rachel's magical allies in her quest to take over the power structure of Cincinnati.   Rachel has to reach deep inside herself to see if she has the strength to step up or if she needs to step aside to save those precious to her.  

This is another fun entry into a long running series with great world building and strong well rounded characters that are like returning to old friends every time a new book comes out.  Looking forward to the next one.

It's the rare author that steps away from a highly popular series at the height of their game.  Harrison doesn't disappoint at all in this finale to the Hollows series.  Major plot points are revealed and there is actual resolution for most of the ongoing storylines so the reader walks away satisfied.  The Hollows series got more serious as the books progressed so there are some heavy issues and social commentary that gets a tad overt but the character interactions continue to serve as the narrative's heart and soul.

This graphic novel is a prequel to the bestselling Hollows Series, telling how living vampire Ivy and witch Rachel first met while still working cases for the government.  The future roommates and business partners did not get along at all at first glance and build trust during the case.  It was very interesting to see beloved characters in a new format. I especially enjoyed the added material after the story that explained the development process for the graphic novel.  I liked getting a peek behind the curtain...

Ever After (Hollows) by Kim Harrison

The eleventh book in the Hollows series is as fast paced and exciting as the first.  Someone is stealing babies who survive the Rosewood syndrome and the ley line created by Rachel's abrupt exit into the real world in the last book is acting as a black hole and sucking in the Ever After from the demon realm.  If all of the Ever After is gone then the only demons who will survive are those who can daywalk which is Rachel and the insane created demon Ku'Sox.  These are just two of the many wild problems facing witch / demon Rachel Morgan and her usual cast of intrepid friends.  The romance hinted at in the past between Trent and Rachel does move forward in a really sweet way for an urban fantasy novel.  This is a series that needs to be savored from the beginning to fully understand the vivid world and characters that Harrison has created.

Into the Woods: Tales from the Hollows and Beyond by Kim Harrison - 528 pages

This collection of novellas has seven set in the Hollows universe and four that are from outside of it.  All but one of the Hollows stories were previously published as part of an anthology or as an extra at the end of another book.  So don't be surprised if some seem familiar if you are an avid Hollows reader.  I enjoyed getting peeks into the backstories of the major and minor characters to gain a deeper understanding of their motivations.  I liked the "Million Dollar Baby" story best since it features two of my favorites, Trent and Jenks, and shows what was happening off stage in the book Pale Demon when they worked together to rescue Trent's baby.
