Ouran High School Host Club, Volume 18, by Bisco Hatori

Ouran High School Host Club, Volume 18, by Bisco Hatori, 200 pages

I spent the majority of this book squealing out loud, because I love Ouran High School Host Club that much, and this ending gave me everything I wanted.  Tamaki and Haruhi go on their first date, and of course it’s over the top and ridiculous.  More significantly, Haruhi reveals that she has plans to study abroad in America.  What will the Ouran High School Host Club do? Don’t worry- everything ends happily ever after.

This penultimate book in the Ouran series reminded me of Fruitsbasket’s penultimate- down to the very last page.  I couldn’t wait for the last volume!  In this one, the machinations of the Suoh group displace Tamaki’s grandmother from head of the Suoh group. This means that Tamaki can see his mother now, so he should be grateful, right? Not so- Tamaki is a genuinely good guy who wants to earn his grandma’s love, and not through deceit.  It’s up to Haruhi and the gang to get Tamaki to see how important it is to see his mother, too- and to see that Haruhi is in love with him.  Anyone who enjoys really “girly” and funny manga should read this series.
