It's rare that this far into a series the author has been able to keep up the tone and intensity the drew me to it in the first place.  This latest installment takes Lazarus and Decker into a new life of retirement in upstate New York.  Decker is a little at loose ends as he adjusts to life as a detective in a small town police department compared to being with the LAPD.  A seemingly small crime involving theft from a mausoleum evolves into a whodunit murder mystery crossing across state lines and social boundaries.  The change of scenery helps add new depth to these well loved characters and I enjoyed the cameos from their extended family as well.  As always you learn about art, history and religion without even realizing it.  Highly recommended.

This book opens with the trial testimony of Decker's foster son Gabe regarding the incident that was the focus of the last book.  Decker is called away to face one of the more bizarre cases of his career involving a murdered millionaire, a pet tiger, and prostitution.  The case is intriguing and kept me guessing until the end.    Kellerman is very strong at blending the personal and professional narratives into a seamless story that reads like a movie.  The cameo by Jonathan Kellerman's character Alex Delaware was a nice touch.

Gun Games by Faye Kellerman

Gun Games by Faye Kellerman - 375 pages

Another worthwhile entry into Kellerman's long running Decker / Lazarus series.  The focus of the story is split between Gabriel Donatti, a foster child living with the Deckers and the police investigation into two apparent suicides at the same local exclusive private school.  The plot has enough twists and turns to keep your interest and the characters continue to be strong and very well painted.  Plus, as a bonus you will learn about Jewish culture and classical music along the way!
