The Replacement by Brenna Yovanoff

The Replacement by Brenna Yovanoff - 368 pages

Mackie Doyle is a changeling - he was swapped out with a human child and left in his place in his crib.  As Mackie grew up he knew he was different but never quite how much until now.   With one foot in Faerie and one in our world Mackie is struggling to find a place in either world.  Secrets literally lie beneath his small town that will shatter everything he knows and make him re-think his relationships with his family and friends.

This is a very dark story reminiscent of the original Grimm's fairy tales before Disney got a hold of them.  It's marketed as a Teen book but has plenty to appeal to adult readers as well.

When Triss wakes up after an accident, she knows that something is very wrong. She is insatiably hungry; her sister seems scared of her and her parents whisper behind closed doors. She looks through her diary to try to remember, but the pages have been ripped out. Soon Triss discovers that what happened to her is more strange and terrible than she could ever have imagined, and that she is quite literally not herself. In a quest find the truth she must travel into the terrifying Underbelly of the city to meet a twisted architect who has dark designs on her family - before it's too late ...
