The Crash by Freida McFadden

The Crash by Freida McFadden - 338 pages

Tegan is eight months pregnant, alone, and desperately wants to put her crumbling life in the rearview mirror. So she hits the road, planning to stay with her brother until she can figure out her next move. But she doesn’t realize she’s heading straight into a blizzard.

She never arrives at her destination.

Stranded in rural Maine with a dead car and broken ankle, Tegan worries she’s made a terrible mistake. Then a miracle she is rescued by a couple who offers her a room in their warm cabin until the snow clears.

But something isn’t right. Tegan believed she was waiting out the storm, but as time ticks by, she comes to realize she is in grave danger. This safe haven isn’t what she thought it was, and staying here may have been her most deadly mistake yet.

And now she must do whatever it takes to save herself—and her unborn child.

Wow, a great read!  I loved the multi-character points of view; it allows the reader to see the assumptions some characters are making about others.  I think this one could be one of my favorites of hers; it was wonderful!

Dead Mountain by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child

Dead Mountain by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child-388 pages

Nora Kelly Series #4
Nine seasoned mountaineers set out on a winter backpacking trip.  They set up camp.  Through the evening something goes terribly wrong.  Many of them flee the tent with only the clothes they are wearing into a terrible blizzard; assuring a painful demise.  The searchers only find six bodies on the first go around...most missing body parts.  Later two more bodies are found; a murder suicide.  What would drive such close friends to commit such atrocities?  You will have to read it to find out!  I enjoy this series very much.

Dead of Winter by Darcy Coates

 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Dead of Winter by Darcy Coates - 384 pages

When Christa joins a tour group heading deep into the snowy expanse of the Rocky Mountains, she's hopeful this will be her chance to put the ghosts of her past to rest. But when a bitterly cold snowstorm sweeps the region, the small group is forced to take shelter in an abandoned hunting cabin. Despite the uncomfortably claustrophobic quarters and rapidly dropping temperature, Christa believes they'll be safe as they wait out the storm.

She couldn't be more wrong.

Deep in the night, their tour guide goes missing...only to be discovered the following morning, his severed head impaled on a tree outside the cabin. Terrified, and completely isolated by the storm, Christa finds herself trapped with eight total strangers. One of them kills for sport...and they're far from finished. As the storm grows more dangerous and the number of survivors dwindles one by one, Christa must decide who she can trust before this frozen mountain becomes her tomb.

I like how each of the characters are described, each one is very different. The main character, Christa, is still recovering from a traumatic event that occurred two years past, and how the author ties that event into the story is fantastic! As the story progresses, she gets stronger and braver. There are so many twists and turns in the book, it kept me interested. I really enjoyed the ending; I didn't quite see it coming but had my suspicions. This book keeps you guessing all the way to the end, I would definitely recommend!

Perfect Partners by Jayne Ann Krentz

Perfect Partners by Jayne Ann Krentz - 339 pages

Former librarian Letitia Thornquist has just inherited the camping goods empire that Joel Blackstone was slated to purchase in the next year.  He's been making plans for years to use Thornquist Inc as the means for revenge.  However, now he has to deal with idealistic Letitia who wants to take over the company.
Sometimes you just need a book that doesn't require any thought.  This is one of them.  I had read this previously years ago, but long enough that I didn't really remember the revenge scheme.  A fun, quick romance.

The Lady Most Willing . . . by Julia Quinn, Eloisa James and Connie Brockway

The Lady Most Willing . . . by Julia Quinn, Eloisa James and Connie Brockway - 371 pages

Taran Ferguson is disgusted with his nephews -- neither of them can find a wife to keep the family going.  So he takes matters into his own hands.  After an evening of drinking he raids a nearby ball and kidnaps ladies he considers eligible for his nephews.  He also kidnaps a fourth lady and a Duke by accident.  Now they are stuck in his drafty castle until a blizzard lets up and they can all escape. The amazing part though is that Taran's plan seems to be working -- love is in the air.
This is another collaboration between Julia Quinn, Eloisa James, and Connie Brockway.  While the premise is preposterous, it was fun to read.
