Ring Shout by P. Djeli Clark

Ring Shout by P. Djeli Clark - 181 pages

This is one of those books I think it's best to just dive into without knowing too much about the setup.

All you need to know is that it's about three incredible women taking down the KKK, and that it's going to blow your mind.

This is a short book, but P. Djeli Clark packs a punch, and not a single word is wasted.  This is definitely one of my favorite books of the year, and I'm recommending it to everyone I know.

Shadows Before the Sun by Kelly Gay

Shadows Before the Sun by Kelly Gay - 352 pages
Charlie Madigan Book 4

In Charlie Madigan's Atlanta she serves as a cop policing visitors to our dimension from the "hell" dimension of Charbydon and the "heaven" dimension of Elysia.  Madigan's partner Hank is being held in his home dimension by the Circe for treason for trying to end a centuries old barbaric practice that results in sacrificing children's futures to protect his home city.  Madigan is grappling with her own powers as an engineered being containing elements of both dimensions which makes her close to divine strength...if only using her powers didn't bring an immediate appearance of the spectre of death to strike her unconscious.  Madigan and Hank's growing romantic relationship plus her loyalty to her partner inspires Charlie to do anything to get him back, no matter the cost.

The Darkest Edge of Dawn by Kelly Gay

The Darkest Edge of Dawn by Kelly Gay, 384 pages
(Charlie Madigan Series - Book 2)

Atlanta is covered in 24-7 darkness after the choice Charlie made in the first book to save her daughter.  The Chabydonians have gained the upper hand by making Atlanta closer to the hellish realm they are trying to escape.  Charlie's dual nature is forcing conflicts within herself and also with the human, Elysian and Charbydonian leadership as she tries to trace down a serial killer of paranormals and bring back the daylight.  This is dark urban fantasy with a twist of romance that will appeal to most fans of the genre.
