How Y'all Doing? by Leslie Jordan

How Y'all Doing? by Leslie Jordan, 198 pages

From the MARC: "Viral sensation and Emmy Award-winner Leslie Jordan regales fans with entertaining stories about the odd, funny, and unforgettable events in his life in this unmissable essay collection that echoes his droll, irreverent voice. A Southern Baptist celebutante, first-rate raconteur, Emmy Award-winner, and keen observer of the odd side of life, Jordan had no idea how much his life would change when he "went viral." Here Jordan tells stories that make us laugh and lift our spirits even in the darkest days. Whether he is writing about his brush with a group of ruffians in a West Hollywood Starbucks, or an unexpected phone call from legendary Hollywood Debbie Reynolds, each story reflects his fresh and saucy humor and pure heart."

This was a very enjoyable read. Before Leslie Jordan became the darling of IG during the pandemic, I just thought of him as that guy that's in everything, but these essays made him real to me in a way most celebrity biographies do not. Frank and honest about both his sexuality and his recovery, Jordan is unflinching as he tells his stories in his distinct voice.

The Billionaire's Vinegar by Benjamin Wallace

The Billionaire's Vinegar: the mystery of the world's most expensive bottle of wine by Benjamin Wallace - 323 pages

This is the true story of a 1787 Chateau Lafite Bordeaux that was supposedly owned by Thomas Jefferson that sold for $156,000 at auction which set a world's record for the most expensive bottle of wine.  Wallace examines the sale itself and all the players quite exhaustively to get a feel for wine's authenticity.  I'm not a wine person in the least but the personalities involved were very interesting and the potential for fraud in the antique wine market is astounding.  The history buff in me liked learning about Jefferson's wine habits and expertise as well.
